Hopefully you’ve managed to get down to the club or at least seen the updates via WhatsApp or Facebook regarding our outside area re-development. We’ve got raised beds now installed, block paving to surround the stoned bench area, a new set of steps (that are much safer) with a handrail as well as a new paved area around the side of the clubhouse ready to install some storage for a permanent bbq, kit storage and gardening equipment. We’ve had some of the old floodlight posts removed as well as a floodlight electrical box re-spray. We’ll be planting the beds in spring and stocking the storage sheds with some gardening equipment, a bbq and hopefully a new lawn mower. Hopefully it’ll have the club looking even more impressive going into the spring. We’re currently looking at quotes for a new roof as the leaks are now getting out of hand as well as a complete electrical re-wiring of the clubhouse (obviously the new roof needs to come before the re-wire!) We’ll hopefully fit an outside tap as well which will help with cleaning the courts on a more regular basis.
We’ll be hosting our free Christmas Family Tennis evening on Friday 27th December at 6pm. We’ll have free sausage sandwiches on offer as well as some other Christmas treats! This is open to both members and non-members so get your friends and family involved, just let us know how many are coming so we can order the right amount of food!

They also sell last season’s coaching balls. There’s also shock absorbers, tennis grips and key rings on offer! Get in touch with Sasha on 07540 062281 to enquire about these.
Sasha is currently offering discounted tennis lessons if purchased before Christmas (last minute gift opportunity!) 5 hours’ worth of 1-2-1 one-hour lessons are currently just £100 (regular cost is £225)! Perfect for junior members to really develop their tennis technique.
If you are looking for brand new kit please get in touch with Sasha or Andrew as they are sponsored by this specialist racket shop (tennis, badminton, squash, pickleball, padel) and can get great discounts for you.
Our plan to incorporate Pickleball into our club has taken a step further with an indoor venue being secured in recent days. We’re hoping to use the sports hall at Barlby High School; Andrew will announce information on this shortly via our WhatsApp group.
Greg has done a great job in organising some doubles training for the men’s team on Sundays over the winter period ensuring we’re ready to go come the spring. If you’d like to be added to the men’s team WhatsApp group just let us know.
Steve Packer has kindly organised a Christmas Bonus Ball raffle and has just sold the final few numbers. The draw is set for 21st December – good luck to everyone that purchased a number and thank you for supporting the club, particularly Steve for organising this. The money raised will benefit everyone at the club.
Sasha is currently considering holding a late afternoon/early evening Sunday online tennis quiz with a small entrance fee to help raise some more club funds. Greg has also looked into entering a team or two into the pub quiz on Thursday nights at The Greyhound Pub. Hopefully we can get this going in January. Keep an eye on the WhatsApp group for information on both these events.
A couple of our juniors have been selected for Yorkshire training at under 12’s and under 9’s and both have some grade 3 tournaments in Hull over the Christmas holidays, we wish them all the best in their efforts. We have some other juniors who are starting 1-2-1 lessons with Sasha so it won’t be long before we have more representation at LTA tournaments across the region. I really hope that one day we will be in a situation to host our own LTA tournaments which our juniors can enter. Hosting them at Riccall will be a great introduction for them and help settle them into the tournament scene before venturing off to places like Leeds, Hull, Thongsbridge and Sheffield.
That’s all for now, keep an eye on our website and social media for lots of coaching updates and club developments. Don’t forget, club night is on a Wednesday evening from 7pm, we’d love to see more members down there. Don’t worry about your level of tennis, we can easily match ability levels from total beginners to seasoned match players! Numbers coming down have been fairly healthy considering the time of year and weather, if we can try to keep it going throughout the winter, the spring and summer months are set to be amazing!
